Ankara City Guide
Ankara the capital is an important trade , industrial and culture
city. As well as being the control center of republic of Turkey , it
also a meeting point for all the highways and railways across the
county with it's strategically location surrendered by agricultural
areas.
The oldest settlement in the city is from the
Hattitians of bronze age Anatolia, after this the city was ruled by
Phrygia, Lydia, Persians, Alexander the Great, Galatia, ancient Romans
and Byzantine one after another. Being under the control of Turkish
dominance in 1073 the city kept it's importance during the Seljuk and
Ottoman empire.
After the first world war , the city has been the
symbol of the national fight leaded by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk has been
declared as the Capital of republic of Turkey after the Turkish war of
independence.
Anitkabir has the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal
Ataturk located on a magnificent hill, on Anittepe hill. The
impressive elegant structure that covers both the historic and modern
architecture was completed in 1953. It is possible to see the sculpture
of Ataturk ,his personal stuffs , letters, his writings and the
pictures that is taken on valuable moments.
It is a modern
tourism and culture city with it's eye-catching museums rich in content
/ materials , historic architectures, universities, theater and concert
saloons, art galleries and with festivals.
Places to visit in Ankara
Anitkabir,
Castle of Ankara built in 2nd century B.C. by the Galatia was then
completed by the Ancient Romans and then it had been constructed and
repaired again by Byzantines and Seljuks , inside of the castle and the
outdoor of castle is one of the oldest area of Ankara and display best
examples of the traditional architecture. it has gained it's important
again with a bunch of restored old Turkish houses and the restaurants
presenting local tastes.
Roman's bath (Hamam); This old bath
located in Ulus has the all specialties of classical Roman's bath, was
built by the Empire Caracalla in the 3rd century for the name of
medicine god Asclepius.
August temple is right next to Haci Bayram mosque in Ulus.
Julian's Column; This column was built for the name of Roman's Empire Julian who visited in 362 century in Ulus.
