Sivas City


Sivas located on the east part of Central Anatolia and on the interchanges of ancient Silk Road as well as the famous king's roads interchanges passes through the city.

Talaurs, Sebaste, Danisment, Sibas, Eyalet-i Rum, Megapolis, Eyalet-i Sivas, Kabira and Diaspolis (the city of the god) are some of the names which were given by the kingdoms, and empires those ruled over the city in the history.

The area was an important historical and cultural center as it's the place where the first settlements of Turkish Republic was found and the birth place of great poet Asik Veysel.

Having a great value of natural wonders and beauties with it's forest, mountains, streaming waters, rivers, lakes and caves is one of the most popular city for providing available racecourses and opportunities for many type of sports, activities and tours such as caravan - camping, hunting, mountaineering, trekking, sportive fishing and rafting.

The world wide famous Turkish Shepherd Dog (Kangal Kopegi) is famous highlight of the area especially in Kangal Town of Sivas.


Places to visit in Sivas

Ataturk Congress and Ethnography Museum; It was firstly opened to public as Mulki Idadi and then with the name of Sultani. During the congress of famous Sivas Congress in 4th September 1919 the name of the place was still Sultani and then it was named as Sivas Highschool Building in 1924. The construction was used as a school back until 1981 and it contains the office of Ataturk and the properties , documents of the congress is still being displayed without loosing their originality.

The Ethnographic part of the museum displays the weapons and other war items of Ottoman Empire, Coins of Ottoman Empire, calligraphic arts, tablets, the carpets which were gathered from the mosques within the border of Sivas City, famous Sivas Rugs and Carpets, the main office of Sivas Pavilions from the Ottoman Empire Era, Divrigi Grand Mosque wooden arts, Copper work pieces, Islamic Arts, showcases / vitrines, Kilim Collections, and the portrait picture of Mahmud Pasa (the founder of Sivas Congress Construction) weaved on the rug and lastly the shawls of Gurun.

Museum of Poet Asik Veysel; The house of great Turkish Poet Asik Veysel which was nationalized in 1979 and turned into a museum in our present days. The construction displays the personal stuffs of Asik Veysel, Photos and poems of the great poet.

Kusakli / Sarissa Ruin was one of the important city of Hittites. The first agreement between countries which was signed by Hittites and the Egypt was mentioning the witlessness of the storm god of Sarissa Antique City. It is the 5th center of Turkey giving Hittites tablets.

Kayalipinar Ruins is also another important Hittites city as the 6th tablet giving center of Turkey.

Maltepe Mound / Tumulus contains the foundlings that goes back up to early Bronze Age. Stone Houses without a basement, and plenty of ceramic pieces are worth to see.

Topraktepe covering some items and pieces from Ottoman Empire and Seljuks Dynasty also covers some other materials from Hittites again.

Grand Mosque is a structure of Danishment's Architecture and it's one of the biggest mosques of Central Anatolia.

Meydan (Central) Mosque was built by Koca Hasan Pasa in 1564.

Divrigi Kale Mosque was constructed between 1180 - 1181. This structure preserving the attribute of being one of the oldest mosque that was constructed in Anatolia is closed to serve as a mosque in our present times.

Aliaga Mosque was constructed with stones in 1580 and is still open for praying at present.

Divrigi Grand Mosque is known as the master piece of Islamic Structures and Architecture , and was built by Emir Ahmet Sah between 1206 and 1228. Traditional Anatolian stone work made the mosque to get UNESCO to put it in the list of "World Protection Heritage List" besides it's architectural highlights.

It is one of the best example of Ottoman Empire's Mosque with it's great architecture, accessories, and elegant minaret (mosque tower). Gok Madrassah was built in 1271 as the school of Astronomy.

It is one of the master pieces of Plastic Work opus. Alibaba Mosque 1792, Abdulvahabi Gazi Mosque 18th century, Zincirli Minare Mosque, Altinyayal Central Mosque, Hocaimam Mosque, Kursunlu Hamam (Bath), Bayrampasa House, Tashan, Alacahan Caravansary , Sivas Castle, Divrigi Castle, Seyh Huseyin Rai Fountain, Yildiz Bridge, Kesik Bridge, Egil Kopru, Susamislar Pavilion, Abdi Aga Pavilion, Inonu House, Osman Aga House and the church of Tuzhisar Village are some of the other highlights, architects and significant places of visits in Sivas City.

 Kangal Balikli Spa, Hot and Cold Cermik Thermals are only some of the natural healing waters of Sivas.Sizir Waterfalls, Gokpinar Lake, Hafik Lake, Hot Spring, Cold Spring, and Todurge Lake which hold the activity of international water sports during June of every year are some of the recreation spots of the city.
